The partnership seeks to develop therapeutic tools for the diagnosis and treatment of metastasis in a targeted manner.
IRB Barcelona and the Spanish Association Against Cancer have forged a unique partnership to combat metastatic cancer, underscored by a €2 M grant for the AECC Excellence Programme: Metastasis. This collaboration aims to develop precise diagnostic and therapeutic tools targeting metastasis, which is responsible for over 90% of cancer-related deaths. The project harnesses the expertise of ten IRB Barcelona labs, focusing on colorectal, breast, pancreatic, and head and neck cancers.
The initiative is set to advance our understanding of metastasis through a multidisciplinary approach, employing advanced computational methods, patient samples, organoids, and cancer models. It targets three main objectives: unravelling residual disease, decoding treatment resistance mechanisms, and addressing how metastases evade the immune system. This concerted effort intends to transform scientific insights into innovative treatments, marking a significant stride in the battle against cancer.
