The ENABLE conferences are scientific gatherings organised by and for young researchers that seek to ensure the next generation of scientific leaders.
Initially funded by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 Programme, the first four conferences (2017-2021) were held in the cities hosting the headquarters of the four entities leading the project: the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) in Barcelona, Spain; the Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS) in Nijmegen, The Netherlands; The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) in Copenhagen, Denmark; and the Scuola Europea di Medicina Molecolare (SEMM), in Milan, Italy.
The continuity of these gatherings was guaranteed back in July 2021 through a funding agreement signed by the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) and the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB), which sponsored the first four events.
Rebranded as FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE Conferences, the 2022, 2023 and 2025 gatherings will be held somewhere in Europe while the 2024 event will be held for the first time outside this continent.
With the 2022 event already assigned to the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS), in Spain, FEBS, IUBMB and the research institutes of ENABLE are now setting their sights beyond. In this regard, they are now inviting applications from academic institutions (universities or research institutions) with a strong research background in molecular life sciences and an active PhD community to host the FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE 2023 Conference in November 2023 and the 2024 Conference in November 2024.
FEBS and IUBMB will be providing up to €65,000 of funding, as well as some additional funds to cover the cost of planning meetings held before the events. The hosting institution will benefit from the knowledge already accumulated in the ENABLE project and will gain visibility while simultaneously providing precious training to its students and building strong scientific and institutional bridges with the ENABLE institutions, FEBS and IUBMB.
