The newspaper devoted to economics, Expansión, analyses the need to strengthen technology transfer in the centres of excellence in Catalonia. The article informs that IRB Barcelona, which has already set up three spin-off companies, has an innovation office that monitors the research underway at the institute and seeks to detect those lines with potential market interest. According to Joan J Guinovart, director of IRB Barcelona, it is a double challenge, namely that the researcher patents the idea and also finds funding for the company.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease.
