IRB Barcelona Artist in Residence at SONAR festival

Communications & Public Engagement

At this year's Sónar+D, a spiral structure of considerable size, created by Antony Nevin, took centre stage, captivating many with its self-enfolding design. Those lucky enough to hear the artist explain his artwork firsthand discovered how cutting-edge science and technology converge in biomedical research to delve deeper into the behavior of cancer cells, a major challenge in medicine.

Nevin, awestruck by the complexity of atomic structures only visible under a microscope, developed a wasp venom protein prototype during his participation in the Artist-In-Residence programme at the IRB Barcelona, showcased in the Project Area. This prototype is a stepping stone towards replicating cancer cell prototypes, representing a promising leap for biomedical research and a beacon of hope through AI, embodying the fusion of art, science, and technology.
