A study done by IRB Barcelona inspires a school in Castellón to carry out a project on food that has been selected as a finalist in an international initiative called "I CAN School Challenge". This news is reported by the newspaper Levante, El Mercantil Valenciano.
"We know what we eat ", a project done by third year primary school pupils at the state school Assumpció de la Vall d'Uixó in Castellón, has been chosen as a finalist from among the 121 participants in the competition "I CAN School Challenge". This competition forms part of the "Design for Change España" movement, an international initiative that seeks to give kids aged from 8 to 15 the opportunity to change the world.
The food project came about as a result of the research results produced by Salvador Aznar Benitah’s lab, which showed that fats fuel cancer metastasis. It is an example of how research serves to inspire and promote knowledge in schools. The boys and girls, aged 9, began to study and gather information about eating habits, saturated fats, palm oil and the importance of a healthy diet. The many information-gathering activities included interviewing IRB Barcelona scientists Gloria Pascual and Salvador Aznar Benitah.
