On 26 November, the "Vi per Vida" charity organisation run by sommelier Xavi Ayala is holding a wine-tasting event for 400 people in Calella.
The proceeds of the event will go to IRB Barcelona, where advanced projects are being developed on metastasis, which causes 90% of deaths by cancer.
At 18:00 on Saturday 26 November, the Llobet-Guri factory in Calella will host another “Vi per Vida” (Wine for Life) charity wine-tasting event for around 400 people. This event is the seventh in the series, which was launched in Mollerussa in May 2014.
“Vi per Vida” is a charity organisation headed by Xavier Ayala that was set up in April 2014 with the aim to raise money for research into metastasis and increase the public’s awareness of the value of investigation.
The proceeds from the “Vi per Vida” campaigns are given to the IRB Barcelona, which has a programme specifically devoted to research into cancer and metastasis, and about 50 projects in this field.
This will be the third “Vi per Vida” event to be organised in Calella, after the success of the first two. These wine-tasting sessions would not be possible without the support of organisations and people who have selflessly backed this initiative since its very beginning.
For Xavi Ayala, these wine-tasting events, which are reasonably priced and in support of a charity, achieve two objectives, namely to improve knowledge of wine and to increase public support of research. “We bring Catalan wine to the public in a fun activity involving audio-visual presentations and Catalan pop music, and as a group effort we all contribute to a worthy cause.”
For only 5 euros, the participants have the opportunity to taste wines belonging to various Catalan DOs, namely Alella, Penedés, Catalunya and Empordà. The event will be presented by Xavi Ayala himself.
Participants will be served by catering students from the “Institut Bisbe Sivilla” in Calella, who will also be offering some sample dishes.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at three places in Calella (Fruits secs Tulsà, Restaurant Sapore d’Italia, and the Institut Bisbe Sivilla), the Diagonal Restaurant in Pineda, and through the website Ticketea.
