Joan J. Guinovart, director of IRB Barcelona, is one of the 50 most influential people in Barcelona , according to a list drawn up by the magazine Esquire Spain. Prof. Guinovart is the only scientist and director of a research centre that appears in the list, together with names like Isidre Fainé, president of CaixaBank, Joan Rosell, president of the CEOE, Antoni Brufau, president of Repsol, Fernando Amat, founder and director of Vinçon, and Josep Piqué, president of Vueling.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease.
