The newspaper "El Periódico de Catalunya" explains how Catalan research centres are getting it together to obtain competitive fundings that complement the structural operating budgets obtained from Public Administration.
The director of IRB Barcelona, Joan J. Guinovart, is of the opinion that “in a context like the current one it is a question of prioritizing. Only the most competitive institutes will go forward." The report also includes statement by directors Lluís Torner (ICFO), Miquel Àngel Pericàs (ICIQ), and Salvador Solà-Moya (Insitut de Paleontologia Crusafont), among others.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease.
