Mitofusin protein 2 (Mfn2), an crucial componet of mitochondrial metabolism related to the onset of type 2 diabetes, is under the spotlight in the journal Diario Médico, thanks to the BioMed Conference on Mitochondrial Autophagy (Barcelona, March 21-23). As many complex diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, have been associated with alterations in mitochondrial metabolism, proteins involved in degradation and recycling of mitochondria have become possible therapeutic targets.
