Joan Massagué: "Spain is starting to attract first-rate foreign researchers"

In this interview, the adjunct director of IRB Barcelona, Joan Massagué, talks about his role in the Barcelona research centre, the strengthening of research of excellence in Spain and the challenges in cancer research. The interview has been published in the last issue of the journal Eidon, produced by the “Fundación de Ciencias de la Salud”(Health Sciences Foundation), a non-profit institution created in 1991 with the aim of serving as a meeting point for the social sectors involved in health care: the government authorities, civil society, and private.

About IRB Barcelona

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease. To this end, it conducts multidisciplinary research of excellence to cure cancer and other diseases linked to ageing. It establishes technology transfer agreements with the pharmaceutical industry and major hospitals to bring research results closer to society, and organises a range of science outreach activities to engage the public in an open dialogue.
