Bringing together those responsible for scientific management and innovation, the 1st CERCA Conference aims to stimulate collaboration and promote Catalan centres internationally.

This morning the 1st CERCA Conference is being held in the “Born Centre Cultural de Barcelona”, an event that brings together the directors and those responsible for the scientific and innovation management of the 47 research centres that belong to the Generalitat de Catalunya. The event is chaired by Secretary for Universities and Research, Antoni Castellà, and the director of CERCA, Lluís Rovira. IRB Barcelona will be represented by the director, Joan Guinovart, the head of Scientific Management and Academic Affairs, Jorge Domínguez, and the head of Innovation, Cristina Horcajada.

CERCA, acronym of “Centres de Recerca de Catalunya”, is a public organisation run by the Generalitat de Catalunya commissioned with following up, supporting, and facilitating the activities undertaken by research centres in Catalonia. The centres that form part of CERCA are characterized by an independent management model and the application of evaluation protocols—which together culminate in the development of outstanding science.

CERCA conferences aim to bring about synergies between Catalan research centres whilst simultaneously boosting their international visibility. Regarding the latter objective, several international research centres will also be participating in the event.

The gathering will include presentations of three technology transfer projects that are included in the initiative “Prova't”, funded by CERCA. IRB, through Dr. Ernest Giralt’s group, will be participating through a presentation on the project BBBSHUTTLE mAb, in collaboration with Dr. Joan Seoane at VHIO. This joint project seeks to develop a new treatment for brain cancer.
