"Any initiative that seeks to collect funding for research is fantastic and necessary". These are the words of IRB director, Joan Guinovart, in an interview with Elisenda Camps on the radio programme “Tot és possible”, broadcasted by RAC1. Guinovart believes that in the coming years there is a need to increase charity activities, such as "Vi per Vida" to collect funds for the research in metastasis performed at IRB. These initiatives are a clear reflection of the public’s solidarity with and commitment to science.

During the interview, Guinovart also talked about other topics such as the most recent breakthroughs in cancer research and in diabetes, and the state of science in Catalonia and Spain. Regarding the latter, he laments "the lack of interest in science on the part of the Spanish Government” and highlights “the efforts of the Government of Catalonia to maintain investment in science." Elisenda Camps congratulated Guinovart on the recent award of the “Creu de Sant Jordi 2014”, presented by the Government of Catalonia for his dedication to science.
