La Vanguardia reports on the first ACER Prize, awarded on Friday March 21 to three leading figures in science policy who played key roles in the creation of the European Research Council (ERC).

European Commissioner for Environment, Janez Potocnick; former UNESCO General Director, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, and honorary president of the ERC, Fotis Kafatos, received their awards from Catalan Minister of Economy and Knowledge, Andreu Mas-Colell, during a ceremony at the La Pedrera.

ACER is the Catalan Association of Research Centers. ACER, of which IRB Barcelona is a member, aims to help define scientific and research priorities and policies in Catalonia, optimise their management and implementation, and establish the region as an international reference in scientific and technological research.
