Coinciding with #GivingTuesday, today IRB Barcelona is launching its donation campaign for the forthcoming holiday season.
Basic research paves the way towards the medicine of the future. Donations made to research speed up discoveries
Advances made at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) generate new knowledge that can in turn lead to the development of new treatments in hospitals. That is why the Institute’s message is “the medicine of the future starts here”. With this slogan and for the third consecutive year, today IRB Barcelona joins #GivingTuesday, an international day of charitable donations that “aims to be like Black Friday, but for donations," say those backing the movement in Spain.
The benefits of research
2018 has been a year of major scientific findings for the researchers at IRB Barcelona. The breakthroughs made may, for example, facilitate immunotherapy for aggressive colon cancer, unravel what triggers cells to metastasise, allow us to learn from venoms in order to get drugs into the brain and to understand why skin ages, and lead to the identification of the genes underlying autism and the discovery of new links between obesity and diabetes.
The beauty of science
Basic research provides answers and in the process offers incredibly beautiful images. We have selected some of the best images captured by our researchers and designed a desktop calendar. In acknowledgement of support, all those who make a donation before 31 January will receive a copy of our 2019 calendar.
