Joan Massagué, whose research has furthered understanding of the migration of tumour cells toward other organs—a process known as metastasis—is one of the three winners, together with the oncologists Manel Esteller and Josep Baselga, of the 28th Catalonia International Prize “for his ground-breaking research, especially in oncology, that has made a significant contribution to advances in global medicine”.
During the award ceremony, Massagué mentioned the 10 principles of "science building". The newspaper “La Vanguardia” publishes an article about his speech.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease.
