Dr. Joan J. Guinovart, served as director of IRB Barcelona from its foundation in 2005 until 2018. Until 2021 he also led a highly productive laboratory on Metabolic Engineering and Diabetes Therapy, making remarkable discoveries in carbohydrate metabolism, diabetes and Lafora Disease.
An outstanding scientist, an unparalleled leader and an amazing person, he is, at present, an IRB Barcelona Emeritus Professor, guiding, advising and representing the Institute in a variety of events.
