The Translational Research and Innovation Programme (TRIP) launches two initiatives

IRB Barcelona launches two new initiatives within the Translational Research and Innovation Programme (TRIP), with the support of ”la Caixa” Foundation through the “CaixaResearch Clinical Translation” initiative and the Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia.

TRIP is an unprecedented endeavour aiming to foster the synergistic interaction between IRB Barcelona, clinical research centres and hospitals in Catalonia, thereby boosting translational research and having a direct impact on public health and health-related industry.

TRIP seeks to strengthen translational research to tackle—both from the clinical and fundamental research perspectives—complex medical problems with a major impact on human health, including age-related diseases and cancer.

In conclusion, TRIP will set the basis of a systematic new process to potentiate the translation of fundamental research to society.

This initial pilot phase is part of an ambitious project that will pave the way for a programme involving a growing number of research institutes and hospitals in the near future. During 2021, IRB Barcelona founded two TRIP junior research groups led by Drs. Direna Alonso-Curbelo and Alejo Rodriguez-Fraticelli, respectively.

In order to complete the TRIP pilot phase, IRB Barcelona is launching two complementary calls:

TRIP-Clinics - Second Call

The second call will create up to two new TRIP-Clinics research groups through the integration of two medical groups into IRB Barcelona’s research environment. This approach will facilitate the transfer of knowledge and access to state-of-the-art technologies in fundamental and clinical research.

Please see the open call. TRIP-Clinics is jointly funded by the “CaixaResearch Clinical Translation” initiative and the Health Department of the Government of Catalonia.

Junior Group Leader

This position will be supported through the “CaixaResearch Translació Clínica” initiative. The prioritised field of the group will be translational research in immunology/inflammation.

Please see the open call hyperlink.

TRIP Clinics

It will create three new research groups through the integration of three medical groups into IRB Barcelona’s research environment. This approach will facilitate the transfer of knowledge and access to state-of-the-art technologies in fundamental and clinical research. Please see the open call hyperlink:

  1. The “CaixaResearch Translació Clínica” initiative will fund the recruitment of two groups.
  2. The Health Department of the Government of Catalonia will fund the recruitment of one group.
