Mechanism deciphered: MAF protein promotes breast cancer metastasis

Published in Nature Cell Biology

Led by Dr. Roger Gomis, researchers have revealed how the MAF protein fosters breast cancer metastasis by influencing the estrogen receptor. This mechanism, which prompts the alteration and activation of genes linked to metastasis, has been documented in Nature Cell Biology. The study suggests targeting the KDM1A molecule as a potential therapeutic approach to halt the metastatic process.

A reflection of the study’s impact has been the development of the MAF Test by the spin-off company Inbiomotion. This diagnostic tool is crucial for identifying breast cancer patients at heightened risk of metastasis, significantly aiding in tailoring individual treatment plans.
