The next session of the Innovation Workshop Series is on 8 November!
The Innovation Department is pleased to invite you to the next training session, “Scientists as Entrepreneurs”, in the Innovation Workshop Series
This workshop will provide an overview and successful examples of how scientists are an extraordinary source of talent and skills through which to promote entrepreneurship:
- Key elements about entrepreneurship for scientists by our Entrepreneur in Residence, Marc Ramis (in vivo interview)
- First-hand accounts of successful scientists who are founders and CEOs of their own companies (Oscar Flores, CEO of Made of Genes, Daniel Oliver, Director of Capital Cell, and Pilar Puig, CEO of HappyWeek)
- Invitation to participate in the recently created programme for IRB scientists: @irbstartup! (in vivo interview)
If you wish to participate in this workshop, please send an email to innovation@irbbarcelona.org with your name, research lab, position, and email before Thursday 3 November. A confirmation email will be sent after the registration deadline.

Speakers
Dr. Oscar Flores is a Computer Engineer and holds a PhD in Biomedicine and an MBA. Oscar did his PhD in Modesto Orozco’s lab, analysing genetic and epigenetic data. After that, he founded Made of Genes, a start-up devoted to personal genomics that has received more than 700,000€ in funding and numerous awards. He has recently been named one of Spain’s top-ten innovators under the age of 35 by the ‘MIT Technology Review en español’.

Mr. Daniel Oliver is the founder and director of Capital Cell, Europe’s first equity crowdfunding platform specialising solely in the healthcare sector and that traded over 700 K€ in its first year of operation (2015). Daniel has a scientific background and has been working in the financial sector since 2013 when he launched Creoentuproyecto.com. Besides working at Capital Cell, he also acts as an advisor to the European Commission and teaches several entrepreneurship and investment courses at Barcelona Activa.

Dr. Pilar Puig holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and is a social entrepreneur. Pilar is co-founder and CEO of ‘HappyWeek’, a startup that created a game for couples that provides ideas to keep the relation fresh and happy. Pilar has also co-founded ‘MOU’, an NGO focusedon supporting low income people with basic needs (mou.cat).

Dr. Marc Ramis is our Entrepreneur-in-Residence and CEO of Tech & Business Innovation (TBI), an academic firm focused on knowledge exchange and corporate-academic partnerships. Marc is an entrepreneurial business developer focused on science commercialization and innovation management. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford (2006), and completed the Harvard Business School PLD Program in 2011. |

Dr. Alba Olivares is one of our Technology Transfer Officers at IRB Barcelona. She is responsible for identifying new discoveries and boosting the technology transfer process. Particularly, she provides support on patentability analysis, PoC development as well as licensing or EBT creation. She holds a PhD in Biotechnology and Postgraduate studies in Innovation Management.
