Five years ago, the United Nations General Assembly declared 11 February International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Since then, 11 February is a day devoted to educational and public outreach activities that address the participation and progress of women and girls in science.

Once again, IRB Barcelona joins the celebration of this International Day. Today some of its researchers such as Ilaria Dutto, Maria Sanchiz, Meritxell Teixidó, Anna Lladó, Anna Pijuan, Katerina Danezi and Beatriz Pino will be participating, among other activities targeting the public, in “100tífiques”.

At IRB Barcelona, where we work tirelessly to drive vocation for science, especially among women and girls, today is a great day that we want to celebrate with you. Our female scientists invite you to check out this video, in which they give some advice to their 12-year-old selves. Do you know what they would say to these young girls?

About IRB Barcelona

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease. To this end, it conducts multidisciplinary research of excellence to cure cancer and other diseases linked to ageing. It establishes technology transfer agreements with the pharmaceutical industry and major hospitals to bring research results closer to society, and organises a range of science outreach activities to engage the public in an open dialogue. IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 researchers and more than 30 nationalities. Recognised as a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence since 2011, IRB Barcelona is a CERCA centre and member of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST).
