The Preguntas Big Van section of La Vanguardia has published an article on a new joint project being done by Raúl Méndez, group leader at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), together with Mercedes Fernández, researchers at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas August Pi i Sunyer.
This project seeks to analyse the cells that regulate the activity of genes (CPEB) during liver cancer development. “We aim to unravel the mechanisms through which CPEBs contribute to tumour onset and growth,” explains Méndez. “If we understand these mechanisms then we might be able to develop pharmacological treatment to prevent or better treat liver cancer”.
This study is part of the “Questions for the Future” programme, run by ”la Caixa”.
