“El Temps” magazine publishes an extensive report about the research on protein nanomachines (also called protein complexes) —the structures responsible for performing cell functions—, headed by Oriol Gallego, research associate with the Translational Control of Cell Cycle and Differentiation Lab at IRB Barcelona.
The study, which also involved PhD student Irene Pazos, combines genetic engineering, super-resolution microscopy and biocomputation to allow researchers to see for the first time in 3D the protein machinery inside living cells.
Published in the journal Cell, this work unveils key functional features of an assembly of proteins that is vital for animals and plants.
