Roger Gomis, ICREA researcher at IRB Barcelona, speaks about cancer research on the day the Spanish Association Against Cancer collects donations for research from the public.

In an interview on Radio 5 News, the IRB scientist remarks that "20 years can pass between a discovery to the development of a treatment, but without this first breakthrough there would be no new future drug". For Gomis, prevention, surgery, chemotherapy, and research are the key factors in the fight against cancer.

Regarding the most innovative lines of research, Gomis highlights genomics and personalised medicine in immunotherapy and metastasis, "We are going to see many breakthroughs in these three lines of research, such as treatments for the prevention of metastasis."
