Eduard Batlle, recently awarded the “Doctores Diz Pintado” National Cancer Research Prize by the Cancer Centre of Salamanca, states in "La Gecata de Salamanca" that “given the current difficulties to receive public funding, private philanthropy should be promoted in order to ensure the continuity of research.”
Batlle explains that the key issue now with respect to colorectal cancer research is to understand why relapses occur in the form of metastases. “It is necessary to make an impact in this line of investigation to allow breakthroughs in the fight against this tumour.” He goes on to stress that prevention for this type of tumour is fundamental as “we know for certain that the earlier colon cancer is detected, the greater the chance of tackling it successfully.”
