IRB Barcelona participates for the ninth time in the “Live Research” Fair, an event held in La Pedrera in Barcelona that seeks to bring science closer to the general public.

From 23 to 25 April, La Pedrera hosts the 11th "Live Research" Fair, an initiative that gives the general public an insight into the cutting-edge research performed in the Catalan capital. This year is the ninth time IRB Barcelona labs have participated. The fair is organised by the Barcelona Science Park in collaboration with the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation. During these days, three IRB Barcelona scientists will move their test tubes to the emblematic building of La Pedrera, where they will exchange views with visitors and show them some of the experiments done daily in their labs.

This year the researchers Josep Garcia, Sílvia Vilaprinyó and Laura Mendieta, from the “Peptides and Proteins” lab, run by Professor Ernest Giralt, will present the workshop “Where is medicine headed?”, in which they will develop a very special drug with the help of the general public. The scientists explain that “with our experience we want to give visitors an insight into modern drug research, which seeks to develop highly targeted drugs in order to gain selectivity and to minimize side effects”.

The Fair will host stands attended by scientists from other research centres in Catalonia. The goal is to show that science not only improves our quality of life but it is also fun and fascinating.
