The channel “Biomedicina y Salud”, which forms part of the Madri+d portal, presents a report by the journalist Xavier Pujol about the new focus that Joan Massagué, adjunct director of IRB Barcelona, is giving to research on metastasis. Metastasis is the spread of cancerous cells from the original tumour to other organs and it is responsible for 90% of deaths from cancer. Understanding how this process occurs and discovering the genes that allow cells to remain dormant and to later colonize other organs is crucial for the design of future cancer therapies.
