The “Tema del Dia” (Subject of the Day) in the newspaper “El Periódico de Catalunya” is devoted to research in Spain and Catalonia. Four pages analyze the posible effects of the cut-backs announced by Mariano Rajoy for Spain and an uncertain future for many “Ramon i Cajal” researchers.

These pages also include an interview with the Director General of Research of the Catalan Government, Josep M. Martorell, in which he explains that the budgets for CERCA institutions will increase between 2% and 3%. The Ministry of Economy and Knowledge affirms that the research of excellence performed in Catalonia is in a favorable position thanks to success in competitive funding awarded by the European Research Council and the Severo Ochoa Programme.
