Scientist Manel Esteller ventures that Catalan scientists, among these Joan Massagué, adjunct director of IRB Barcelona, are increasingly beginning to dream about receiving the distinction. According to Esteller, the award of a Nobel prize would be a international signal that here we invest in science.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease. To this end, it conducts multidisciplinary research of excellence to cure cancer and other diseases linked to ageing.
