Researchers at the Harvard School of Medicine have discovered stem cells with the ability to form any type of lung cell. Today’s issue of the newspaper La Vanguardia reports on this study, published in the specialized publication The New England Journal of Medicine. During the writing of this article, the researchers sought the opinion of Eduard Batlle, ICREA professor at IRB Barcelona and an expert in stem cells and cancer. According to Batlle, stem cells “are helping us to understand the origin of some diseases, particularly some types of cancer, and in the future they will allow the development of new treatments”.
