The newspaper La Vanguardia devotes an opinion piece to the Gold Medal Award of the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute to three Spaniards working in the U.S., including Joan Massagué, Adjunct Director of IRB Barcelona. Fernando Aleu, who received this award in 2003 and is the author of the article, welcomed the recognition of the role of these three men in the consolidation of Spain's image in the United States. Apart from Joan Massagué, who has received the award in recognition of his scientific career and combines his work as director of the Department of Genetics and Biology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and his position as IRB Barcelona Adjunct Director; also have been awarded Isak Andik, founder of Mango and Josep Baselga, renowned scientist and Head of Oncology at the Hospital Vall d'Hebron in Barcelona and director of Oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
