La Vanguardia dedicates the opening article in the section “Tendencias”(Tendencies) to the situation of women scientists in Spain. In a two-page article, the journalist recounts several testimonials of leading scientists in the country, among these Joan J. Guinovart, director of IRB Barcelona and president of the “Confederación de Sociedades Científicas de España” (COSCE) (Confederation of Spanish Scientific Societies). The report highlights concern about the many women who abandon science.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease. To this end, it conducts multidisciplinary research of excellence to cure cancer and other diseases linked to ageing.
